NHS England is working with Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership to establish a pioneering gender identity health service for people (from 17 years of age) in Greater Manchester.

The service will be based in a local community or primary care setting in Greater Manchester, and it will deliver, or arrange access to, the range of specialised interventions that are available from a conventional Gender Identity Clinic, including hormone treatments, counselling and referrals for surgery.

NHS England will arrange for independent evaluation of the service as a pilot initiative after two years and if it is evaluated positively, NHS England will consider how to roll the model out across the country.

Before NHS England embarks upon a process to identify potential suitable organisations to deliver the service in Greater Manchester, it is holding another event for stakeholders. Through the event we want to explore people’s ideas about what the new service should provide and how it will deliver them. We also want to hear thoughts on the important questions that bidding organisations should be asked on behalf of people who will be using the new service.

Format of the event

The day will be split into two sessions, the first session in the morning will be for potential users to hear ideas around the new service and to shape the important questions to bidding organisations.

The afternoon session will provide an opportunity for potential service users to meet the organisations who have expressed an interest in delivering the new service. This will allow them to hear first hand of what is important to people and allow these providers to discuss how they might see the service working.

The event is for potential users of the new service. Places are limited to up to 35 people.

Registration opens from 9.30am and there will be tea and coffee available.
