Digital Sustainability - Meet Spenser the Dispenser
Join the London Greener NHS Team for our latest Lunch and Learn: Digital Sustainability - Meet Spenser the Dispenser
Robust digital foundations are crucial for transforming healthcare, driving better access, quality, productivity, and reducing emissions. During this session we meet the team from South West London and St George's Mental Health Trust (SWLSTG) who implemented a pharmacy robot. Despite the long-standing use of pharmacy robots in larger Trusts, smaller Trusts such as SWLSTG have faced challenges in implementation and demonstrating key benefits. This session will explore how a smaller Trust has successfully leveraged these technologies to advance its digital agenda.
Join us in welcoming Abz Salama, Advanced Specialist Information Pharmacist, and Ricky Wong, Deputy Chief Pharmacist, who will present information about the implementation and adoption of the new pharmacy robot, 'Spenser the Dispenser'.
Spenser was affectionately named following a competition held at the Trust. The robot allows the automation of pharmacy processes, helping pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and pharmacy assistants work more quickly and efficiently, and manage stock whilst reducing medicine waste and improving medicine safety.
Spenser also has the benefit of being operated remotely. Being able to do this significantly decreases travel time and travel costs, reducing carbon emissions and helping the Trust achieve its Green Plan targets.
In this session, Abz and Ricky will discuss the main considerations when implementing the technology, challenges, and next steps to further improve use of the technology.
