Submit a Perinatal Event Notification (SPEN) Service

The NHS England Maternity and Neonatal Programme has been working with MBRRACE-UK, MNSI and NHSR, to determine the best solution to improve the reporting of perinatal events.    The development of the Submit a Perinatal Event Notification (SPEN) Service, formerly called the Single Notification Portal, is in response to feedback from multiple channels that duplicative reporting of maternity and neonatal incidents was increasing the burden on frontline teams and using clinical resource unnecessarily. The service aims to: 

•  Reduce the burden on reporting organisations through removing duplicate reporting to national organisations (NHSE, MNSI, NHSR, MBRRACE-UK and CDOP) 
•  Increase the accuracy of reporting 
•  Improve communication and transparency between organisations.  

We invited you to join us earlier this year in March 2025 to show and tell you about this session and demonstrate the new reporting portal, ahead of a phased rollout in Summer 2025. Due to the high number of registrations, we have decided to hold another event, please see details below.  

This event is relevant to anyone in a trust who currently reports maternity events to MBRRACE-UK, MNSI or NHSR, trust legal teams, senior midwives, obstetricians and neonatologists. as well as heads of service and any other relevant roles. 

The demonstration session will be held Thursday 22^nd May 2025 between 14:00-15:00.
