Optical Diagnosis Training and Accreditation Online Event
Optical Diagnosis (OD) with resect and discard (R&D) involves a colonoscopist making an optical diagnosis of small, diminutive polyps (≤5mm) with high confidence. They are required to record with photographic documentation of the polyps, using both white and blue light imaging (e.g. narrow band imaging (NBI)) and then discard the resected polyps rather than sending them to histopathology.
All endoscopists must be accredited to perform Optical Diagnosis and complete a reaccreditation within 2 years to continue OD practice.
Following four successful training sessions delivered, the fifth OD training session has now been arranged.
This online Optical Diagnosis Training Event has three component parts which will all be covered on the training day: pre-training test, core learning, post-training test.
Bowel Screening Centres are asked to facilitate the attendance of all BCSP colonoscopists that have not yet attended the initial training. There is a central hub of information pertaining to Optical Diagnosis available on NHS Futures. The link is provided below.
Enrolment will close on 6th May 2025. If you have any queries regarding this event please contact anna.peploe@nhs.net
