Join the Nursing Directorate's Workforce Team between 11:00am-12:00pm on Thursday 24 April 2025 for the sixth webinar in our enhanced therapeutic observations and care (ETOC) series.

This webinar will focus on culture and language, focusing on how organisations have reviewed their ETOC provision and implemented innovative, compassionate and inclusive strategies to create an environment where patients feel safe and staff providing care feel supported.

The webinar will be chaired by James McLean MBE, NHS England’s Regional Chief Nurse for the North West region. James will be joined by trust colleagues who will share their journey in this space.

This webinar is intended to support the sharing of good practice and support broader thinking around the importance of culture and language to drive high quality, person-centred ETOC care. We understand that the examples shared throughout this webinar may not be directly applicable to your organisation and that everyone may be at varying places in their journey, however we are hoping this webinar will inspire you to think differently.

This event will be useful for anyone within your organisation responsible for the provision and monitoring of ETOC, including, but not limited to, ETOC teams, nursing workforce leads, staffing leads and transformation teams.

About the Enhanced Therapeutic Observation and Care (ETOC) programme

Demand for Enhanced Therapeutic Observation and Care (ETOC), often referred to as enhanced care, 1:1’s or specialling, has increased due to our aging population and complexity of patient presentation. Nursing leaders report the need to identify innovative workforce models to ensure that patient safety and experience can be maintained in the most appropriate way.

NHS England's Nursing Directorate's Workforce Team, in collaboration with Safer Staffing colleagues, have launched a programme of work which aims to support systems to develop and improve their approach to how enhanced therapeutic observations and care is assessed and provided, with patient safety and experience at the centre.
