Using Point of Care Testing effectively in a community setting
Friday 31st January 2025 10am – 3.30pm
South West House, Blackbrook Park, Taunton TA1 2PX
Point of care testing is an integral part of the shift of patients receiving care closer to home, transitioning from acute hospital-based services towards more adaptive community-based settings, alongside supporting population health and addressing health inequalities.
However, how do you know you are implementing the “right” tests in safe and clinically effective ways? What are you trying to facilitate at the point of care ? What test should you use, or not ? And how can we take a system-focused approach to using point of care in the community ?
This interactive workshop is designed to walk you through the process of evaluating how to deliver effective point of care in community and primary care settings. You’ll get practical experience of a new evaluation framework developed in partnership with our systems, NHSE and commercial POCT providers, based on the national Point of Care Testing: National Strategic Guidance for at Point of Need Testing published by the IBMS, RCPath and ACB. We will also discuss challenges and successes in using POCT and focus on how outcome data can support decision making and proving effectiveness.
